The Woodsman
Deep in the woods of a mountain, there lived a woodsman who lived alone. One day, while he was adding a new carving of wood to his collection outside his humble log home, a fairy from the woods discovered him and his wooden figurines and statues that he made to look like woodland creatures and people.
The fairy, curious with wonder, came every day to watch over the woodsman and see the beautiful things he created. After months of venturing to the woodman’s home and seeing him tend to the same things daily, one day he broke down in tears while he worked outside on a carving that looked like a woman and child. The fairy, touched by the scene, turned herself into a small dog and came out from the woods slowly, inching closer to the woodsman.
When the woodsman heard the puppy’s whimpers and saw it look up at him, his heart melted, and a smile came upon his face. With arms wide open, he welcomed the puppy into his home, and named her Maggie, which was his wife’s name.
Over time, the fairy turned puppy learned all about the old woodsman, and how he lost his wife and child in a storm not many years ago. Maggie, determined to help mend the woodsman’s heart, spent all her days growing closer to him as his faithful companion, well into his old age.
